Black Canyon Elk Ranch is located approximately 40 miles northwest of Boise. It has been family owned and operated since its founding in 1997. With nearly of 250 acres to graze, our elk are pastured most of the year on fresh grasses in Idaho's nutrient-rich soil. During the winter months, they are supplemented with home-grown alfalfa.
We encourage you to take a drive out and watch the elk as they graze. If you would like to see the elk up close, please contact us in advance to schedule a visit.
Here are a few important dates to remember during our elk season:
- Early March the breeding bulls shed their antlers
- March-August the bulls are displaying their velvet wrapped antlers
- Late May-Early July is calving season
- Late September-Early November is breeding season/bulls are hard-horned
